National Digital Library To Breed New Segment Of Start-Ups

KOLKATA: The National Digital Library (NDL) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, aims to breed a new segment of start-ups to not only help students, teachers and parents but also bolster management of educational institutions.

The idea was explored during the recently-held Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 at IIT Kharagpur under 'Edupreneurship' (entrepreneurial venture targeting the education segment), the institute said in a statement on Thursday.

"It is true that we can Google any information today, but NDL can fetch resources according to your educational need," said Partha Pratim Das of the Computer Science and Engineering department, who is leading the Ministry of Human Resource Development's NDL project.

Das said that apps, services and platform scan be built not only to help students, teachers and parents but also for the school, university and college managements.

"Start-ups can use NDL resources, which are free to access. Once the product is up and running, the start-ups winll have to give NDL usage-based royalty. NDL too would showcase the start-up on its website as content-sharing partners, thereby giving them mileage," Das added.
