Is Pune the Next Silicon Valley For Indian Startups?


BENGALURU: Pune looks like it will soon become the future Mumbai. Global companies are gushing into Pune, which is already out of land space to allocate offices. Pune city is fast emerging as the hotbed for start-ups. According to a study conducted by IIM-Ahmedabad, more than one-fifth of India’s product start-ups are from the city. Of this, almost 21 percent are product start-ups and 11 percent are under the Nasscom’s 10,000 program.

According to a recent analysis conducted for the most promising and emerging tech hubs all over the world, TransferWise, a money transfer startup, listed Pune as the 2nd placed city among cities which include Hong Kong, Nicosia (Cyprus), Dublin, Raleigh, Tel Aviv, Malmo (Sweden).

The study called ‘Think Pune’ has been brought out by IIM-Ahmedabad’s CiiE along with PuneTech, TiE Pune, SEAP, Nasscom and POCC, which reveals that with more than 350 innovation centers in the city, Pune has more Intellectual Product (IP) driven product start-ups.

Pune is uniquely placed due to its proximity to industries. It is also the favorite destination for developers and builders who avail the opportunity in a growing city.
