Goddess Durga's Team Empowerment Lessons For Startups

Bangalore: Entrepreneurs are all in a festive mood with Ugadi, the local Deccan regional festival decorating calendars and houses on 11th April. ‘Ugadi’, is originally derived from the word ‘Yug’ which means ‘era’ and ‘adi’ which means ‘the commencement’.   As the name depicts, this festival marks the beginning of a new year in places like – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

While it marks the beginning of a new year, it also symbolizes the termination of evil and bad omen. Devi Durga, who is known to be the supreme power was incarnated to kill demons and to restore peace and harmony by organizing the messed up creation. This mythological character has a great significance in all our lives and its presence and belief can be traced even in the Harappan civilization. Durga is known to be the killer of ‘Mahisha’ and was primarily incarnated for that as no other Gods could stand the demons wrath. Here are few points startups can learn in terms of team empowerment and building a great team from this well worshipped-aggressive female Hindu goddess.

Envisioning Power

Durga, the supreme power among Gods was born from the inner strength (Shakthi) of the three main Hindu God deities – Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. When the army of Gods lost the battle against the Asuras (Demons), they needed an ultimate power to control the dreadful acts of demons. Mahisha the leader of the asuras asked for a grant to Brahma such that only a woman can kill him and thus Durga was born.

In case of startups, a team has to be well prepared to face the future. Sometimes a team might have to face the consequences of a problem which was done by a previous team and in such scenarios the quality and attributes of Durgamaba must be inculcated to face any situation boldly and to move forward without a flinch.
