From Dharavi to Bollywood: Jameel Shah's Journey As An Entrepreneur

Bangalore: When the entire nation is madly running behind political, economical and criminal issues that sometime gain international interest, there still exists a ‘large community’ that has been deprived of clean water, unpolluted air and even a little real estate to keep their foot on. Surrounded by towering skyscrapers of Mumbai’s most sophisticated localities, is Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi. The word ‘Dharavi’ brings to us a mixed feeling, sometimes sympathy and honestly sometimes disgust. Though this is generally the known face, it has a complete different side, where they nurture and develop great entrepreneurial talents.

SiliconIndia had earlier published a similar article, Entrepreneurs from Asia's Largest Slum-Dharavi. As we look at identifying entrepreneurial talent from every corner; here is this garment worker, Jameel Shah, from the slums of Dharavi who now owns a shoe factory, designing and manufacturing custom made shoes for celebrities including Kajol, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor and international stars like Kylie Minogue, as reported by BS.

Early Life

Jameel Shah was born to a poor farmer as the eldest of eight kids, in Bihar. This young man like any other person had his own set of problems to deal with.
