Free Bollywood Music Provider Dhingana Raises $7 Million

Bangalore: Online Indian music streaming site Dhingana, has raised $7 million in series B funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Series A investors, Inventus Capital Partners and Helion Venture Partners also participated. As a result of this funding, Lightspeed Venture Partners principal Dev Khare will join the Board of Directors.

Swapnil Shinde, co-founder and COO of Dhingana said in an interview with SiliconIndia, “We have over 15 million monthly active visitors in over 220 countries with 5 lakh songs in 35 languages. We plan to use the funding to expand and empower the team and increase our marketing, sales and business development efforts.”

Founded in 2007 by twin brothers Snehal and Swapnil Shinde, Dhingana is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It also has office in Pune, India. Dhingana has Dhingana currently offers HTML5, iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian apps.

Recently, Dhingana had launched an advertising platform, allowing brands to buy ads on its portal. It had also launched an app to integrate with Facebook’s Timeline. The app allows users to share the music they are currently listening to with their Facebook friends in real time.

Dhingana faces competition with online streaming websites such as Saavn.com, Gaana.com, Web18′s MPlayer, and Rediff Songbuzz.
