Drawn to Scale Receives Close to a Million Dollars Funding

California base startup Drawn to Scale has raised $925,000 in initial funding led by RTP Ventures along with the participation of IA Ventures and SK Ventures. The funds will be used to accelerate the roll out of Spire, a database for real-time Big Data with massive scalability, real-time queries, SQL and simplified management.

Founded in 2009 and company is led by Bradford Stephens, founder and CEO at Drawn to Scale. “Our dream is to dramatically speed up and simplify Big Data, freeing developers to focus on their application, using familiar tools, instead of spending their time and scarce resources dealing with a complex infrastructure or trying to get a patchwork solution to work,” says Stephens.

Spire is 100 percent supplied, and it can easily be used with any volume of data and any number of users. It incorporates a revolutionary distributed index that gives real-time performance – in-bound and out-bound – and simplifies queries, including support for SQL. Unlike sharded databases that run queries on every node and then aggregate the results, Spire queries are “single-path” and quickly run on only the nodes that have the requested data. It has been built on Hadoop + HBase, with familiarity and flexibility of SQL to massive datasets. It does not require sharding, custom query algorithms or the details of how your data is stored.

Stephens started the company having a dream of helping people use data instead of struggle with infrastructure and he wanted to speed up and simplify the Big Data, and freeing developers to focus on their application. Prior to this he was the Lead Platform Engineer at Visible Technologies, a Social Media BI company. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Political Science.
