B2B On Demand Delivery Services: New Breakthrough For Start-Ups

BANGALORE: Mohit Kumar and Arpit Dev launched their new business Roadrunnr— a B2B start up in January earlier this year. This Bengaluru-based organization charges a fee for more than five deliveries they do for 150 vendors like Brekkie, Eatlo or Faasos. Quickli,a 5 month old start-up in Delhi and Grab in Mumbai are also involved in the same business.

Kumar and Dev had found that due to rapid multiplication in market diameter, delivery merchants could not stand up to the needed demand in service. The fellow employees thus joined hands to launch their delivery vehicle, Roadrunnr.

Kumar said, “Everybody is building their own fleet in a fragmented market, but food demand is not linear - there is peak demand over the weekends while it is pretty lean during weekdays. So we saw a clear loophole in the market." "The value adds is cost reduction, compared to merchants managing their own fleets," he added.

Kumar considers, "There is a lot of value for us to stay B2B only - working directly with merchants gives us additional leverage."

The 27-year-old Kumar, had previously worked for Ola building its driver app was a lead engineer for HolidayIQ.

In Mumbai and Pune, Grab is a pilot service for many major restaurants and food delivery hubs.

Pratish Sanghvi, director of Grab and Haresh Chawla, group CEO of Network 18 agreed that "Many restaurants don't deliver not because they don't want the revenue, but because they simply didn't have the capacity to.”

Sanghvi comments, “Haresh Chawla, group CEO of Network 18 said."Many restaurants don't deliver not because they don't want the revenue, but because they simply didn't have the capacity to." he said.
