A book by Hilary Mantel, it relates to the English royal dynasty, which held the throne from the accession of Henry VII in 1485 until the death of Elizabeth I in 1603.

The worst thing for a ruling kingdom is the fact that King dies without any male heir in the dynasty. This leads to chaos and unruly behavior in the kingdom and the kingdom might get destroyed as well.

In this book the author describes the same situation and portrays a king in dilemma. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years and marry Anne Boleyn. The pope and most of Europe opposes him.
