Volvo Cars join hands with Autoliv team for developing autonomous driving software

BENGALURU: In a latest statement made it was announced that Volvo Cars has collaborated with Autoliv team to create a jointly-owned company. The main motive behind this partnership is to develop autonomous driving software for Volvo cars. Chinese-owned Volvo Cars and Sweden-based automotive safety group Autoliv said on Tuesday that the name of this new firm has not been yet decided, but it would be developing advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving systems.

Jan Carlson, CEO, Autoliv informed in a joint statement informed that this collaboration was a recognition that the next step that needs to be taken in transforming road safety is an autonomous driving software, and this is a major step towards that trend. The company is all set to start its operations early next year with an initial workforce of 200, and slowly will increase the human resource as they go along.

Earlier this year in August, an announcement had come from the Volvo Cars firm that it would be teaming up with ride-sharing company Uber in order to develop next-generation driverless cars. The project was reportedly worth $300 million as printed by The Times Of India. All these developments have come after Volvo Cars Group was acquired by Geely Holding.

With all these new projects and collaborations, the automobile space is indeed to disrupt soon.
