Suzuki LJ20 Unveiled at the 2016 Bologna Motor Show

BENGALURU: Recent reports from The Economic Times suggest that the Japanese automobile giant Suzuki showcased its off-road vehicle––the Suzuki LJ20 at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy.

Earlier, in the year 1970, Suzuki introduced the first series production of an off-road vehicle which was named the Suzuki LJ10. But, two years down the line, the Suzuki LJ10 went through some comprehensive upgrades, and was renamed as the Suzuki LJ20. The updated variant featured vertical grille bars, and the old 25 PS 360 cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine was replaced with a stunning 28 PS 360 cc water-cooled two-cylinder engine. Soon after its modification, the LJ20’s new grille design became an inspiration for the current Suzuki Jimny’s grille.

After undergoing few more modifications, in the year 1981, the first generation Suzuki Jimny was effectively replaced by the second gen model––a model which is popularly known as the Maruti Gypsy. Later, in 1998, the third gen model was also launched; and, it is still being sold in the international market.

According to the ET, nearly two decades after the current model was released into the market, Suzuki is planning to introduce its fourth generation Suzuki Jimmy. Reports also suggest that the third generation model was not introduced in the Indian market. But the fourth-gen model will be reportedly based in India.

Further reports suggest that the Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, India will be the production hub for the company’s fourth generation Jimny.
