Passenger Car Sales Up 15 Percent In December: SIAM


NEW DELHI: Domestic passenger car sales increased by 15.26 percent in December and stood at 152,743 units from 132,524 units off-take in the corresponding month of 2013, industry data showed.

According to data furnished by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle sales, which include cars, utility vehicles and vans, went up by 12.41 percent at 209,025 units from 185,951 units sold in December 2013.

SIAM data showed that sales of utility vehicles grew by 7.67 percent at 43,256 units, while the off-take of vans declined by 1.71 percent at 13,026 units.

The industry data for last month reported a 58.33 percent growth in overall commercial vehicles segment sales, which is a key indicator of economic activity.

The commercial vehicles segment off-take stood at 21,802 units during last month from 13,770 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

Three-wheeler sales rose by 13.13 percent in the month under review at 39,860 units from 35,234 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

Total two-wheeler sales last month grew by 4.25 percent at 1,212,996 units from 1,163,573 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

Scooter sales in December were up 24.01 percent at 374,159 units, while motorcycle sales declined by 3.52 percent at 779,908 units.

Exports for the month under review went up by 16.79 percent at 336,955 units from 288,525 units shipped out during December 2013.

Total vehicle sales in December grew by 5.68 percent at 1,512,881 units from 1,431,543 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.
