Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Igniting the Competition

BENGALURU: It has been in the air for quite some time and now it’s finally out. As per reports, Ignis is expected to be unveiled around Diwali this year. We also got a glimpse of it at the Paris Motor Show. There have been rumors doing the rounds about the launch dates in India for some time and the latest buzz is that the crossover will make its debut in the market during Diwali. The Ignis may be termed a compact crossover vehicle. It is meant for four people and is very comfortable.

The Ignis, which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, will be sold through premium dealerships of Maruti, the Nexa.

While earlier reports suggested that the launch has been pushed back to 2017, fresh reports suggest that the Ignis is on its way for the launch and could hit the showrooms all across the country in October. Ignis is expected to be priced somewhere in the range of 5 Lakh to 7 Lakh.

According to sources, the car will be available in two variants— a petrol variant that packs in a 1.2-litre engine that delivers 83bhp and 115Nm of torque and the diesel variant, which sports a 1.3-litre engine capable of producing 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque.

Another detail that is up for grabs is the possibility of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) version apart from the standard 5-speed transmission that was expected to arrive in the country. There is also a possibility of an environment friendly version of the vehicle.
