Mahindra Launches Automatic Variant of XUV500 in India


BENGALURU: Automatic transmissions were a rare finds those days but not now and thanks to the traffic wows in the country. With sudden rise in demand for automatic variants across all segments it has now become a priority than a luxury for the current car makers and Mahindra is one among them who has launched a automatic variant of its popular SUV the ‘XUV500’ reports, TOI.

Mahindra who recently tweaked the XUV500 with few new features has finally brought in the car fitted with a brand new 6 speed automatic gearbox which is developed by Japanese component manufacturer Aisin Seiki.

The new gearbox is a conventional unit which comes with a torque convertor and has six forward gears and one reverse gear with MT Mode and Drive Mode. But a bigger plus is that it gets features like hill start assist and a crawl function that holds the car at 10kmph (without pressing the accelerator) is a great benefit for the current traffic congestions in city roads. Apart from the gearbox there is no further changes being made with the engine and it will continue to be the same.

In terms of availability, the Automatic gearbox will be available in three variants on the XUV500, excluding the W4 and W6 models. The W8 will be available with the FWD option with both the manual and the automatic, while the W10 version will get both the manual and automatic gearbox with FWD and AWD options.

Other features include, electric sunroof, 6-way power adjustable driver's seat, fully automatic climate control and reverse parking camera with dynamic assist.
