Gold Plated Durga to be Inaugurated on Oct2

BENGALURU: Durga Puja and Kolkata are synonymous to each other and every year something different and special comes from this land of the east. This year it’s going to be Santoshpur Lake Pally Puja, who are trying their best to craft the costliest Durga idol in town. This 12 feet high Durga idol is being carved out of single sandstone and will be plated by a layer of 24 carat gold. This time ample care is being taken to ensure law and order and proper crowd management to prevent a repeat of what happened at Deshapriya Park last year.  This gold plated idol will be kept in the pandal till October 13.

At the helm of the affair is artist Subhamita Dinda, who is busy carving out 12-foot idol of sandstone. This will be Dinda’s maiden idol-making venture. The organizers have roped in jewelry house Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri, to supply liquid gold for the goddess. The organizers are also planning to hire a drone camera for surveillance and will be installing close circuit television cameras at the pandal to keep a check on the crowd.

A golden crown, studded with precious stones and diamonds, is also being specially designed for the occasion. Dinda who is making her debut as an idol maker said that a special method is being used to work with liquid gold which is going to be used to plate certain portions of the idol. Dinesh Poddar is in charge of the illumination of the pandal. The tentative budget is supposed to be in the range of 3 to 4 crore. Aditi Chakraborty’s's pandal for this occasion is expensive too. Besides Mahogany, Pine and Sirish wood carvings, Chakraborty is also using at least 40 kg of brass along with iron.
