Car of the Week: BMW 6 Series


Bangalore: The first of BMW 6 Series was the E24, being derived from the E12 & E28 5 Series 4-door sedans. The E24 launched in 1976 to replace the 3.0CS & 3.0CSi (E9). BMW released the all new E63/E64 which was available as a coupé and convertible, based on the chassis of the E60 5 Series sedan in 2003. At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, BMW unveiled information of the Concept 6 Series.

At present, BMW sells its sedans 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series along with sports utility vehicles X1, X3, X5, crossover X6 along with M Series, Z4 Roadster and Gran Tourismo in India. These are priced between 24.5 lakh and 1.40 crore.

Engine and Performance

The BMW 650i Convertible is powered by a 4.4 liter 8 cylinder twin turbo petrol engine assistant to an 8 speed sports step-tronic auto-gearbox, which is a huge engine and have the capacity to chum out 407 bhp between 5500 and 6400 rpm and is capable of producing mean 600 Nm of raw torque between 1750 and 4500 rpm.

Acceleration & Pick-Up

Within a mere range of 5.3 seconds, one can touch 100 kmph mark, which is actually very quick for such huge car. The diesel car can jump to 190 kmph but is very safe if you how to control it. During overtakes and acceleration, the engine will be very obedient, says Cardekho.com.

Braking & Handling

On the ventilated disc brakes, the car has all aluminum brake calipers, which also have an auto-drying function as standard, combined with the standard ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).
