ADT - A Neurological Phenomenon Affecting Workforce

Bangalore: Majority of the population living in the present era have become slaves to their iPhone and blackberry and a considerable amount of them are prone to ADT (Attention Deficit Trait), a neurological phenomenon which weakens the thinking capacity of people. This phenomenon is made more clear in the study "new neurological phenomenon" in "Overloaded Circuits: Why Smart People Underperform, by Psychiatrist Edward Hallowell.

The report was first published in 2005 and now in the present hectic world the phenomenon has become more relevant. According to the report-

"Marked by distractibility, inner frenzy, and impatience, ADT prevents managers from clarifying priorities, making smart decisions and managing their time. This insidious condition turns otherwise talented performers into harried underachievers. And it's reaching epidemic proportions. ...

"The symptoms of ADT come upon gradually. The sufferer doesn't experience a single crisis but rather a series of minor emergencies while he or she tries harder and harder to keep up. Shouldering a responsibility to "suck it up" and not complain as the workload increases, executives with ADT do whatever they can to handle a load they simply cannot manage as well as they'd like.", reports Business Insider.

People who suffer from ADP will have to regularly step back from the stressful life they experience at their office and their dependence on technology, if not there are chances that their brains will continuously go into "survival mode," which weakens their thinking capacity and intelligence.

In an interview with TIME magazine, Hallowell said that "anybody who is conscientious is subject to this because they will try to get everything done, no matter what. So are people who crave high stimulation."

Some measures to fight against ADT are-

Always be positive.

Every 4 to 6 hours engage in communication with the person you like the most.

Do easy tasks first when you are overwhelmed.

Take care of your health.

If you are a manager, make sure that your employees focus on their potential.
