The King of Pop and King of Rock'n'Roll Micheal Jackson remains the highest-earning dead celebrity on this year's Forbes list, making $140m in the year. The King of Pop has earned triple-digit millions every full year since his death in 2009. The prime drivers of his afterlife fortune: permanent Vegas Cirque du Soleil shows Michael Jackson One, the Mijac Music catalogue, recorded music sales and half of the Sony/ATV publishing empire.

sdElvis Presley: $55m

Elvis died in 1977 at the age of 42, but the King is still raking in the bucks as fans flock to his former home and resting place, Graceland. He’s making more than most living stars thanks largely to Graceland ticket sales. In August he earned his 53rd Top 40 album with Elvis Presley Forever, a compilation released by the U.S. Postal Service along with a commemorative stamp.

When it comes to women who topped the list of the celebrities who earned even after their deaths is Elizabeth Taylor, who is the highest-ranking woman on the list. Elizabeth Taylor made $20m over the past year, four years after her death. The film star, who famously asked for a dress "the colour of money", when posing for her Life magazine cover in 1948, has several popular perfumes that continue to bring in cash.

Though she died more than a half century ago, Monroe remains an international icon, part of the reason Authentic Brand Group bought the rights to her brand in 2011. In addition to a Macy’s clothing label, there’s also a Monroe lingerie line. She Became famous for playing "dumb blonde" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s, emblematic of the era's attitudes towards sexuality.

Although she was a top-billed actress for only a decade, her films grossed $200 million by the time of her unexpected death in 1962.

In 2015 his estate, the rights to which are owned by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, made $11m from sales of merchandise, including mugs, posters and bobblehead dolls.
