1957 Ferrari 335 S Ripples Paris Auction Market, Fetches 32 Mn Euros

BENGALURU: Exotic cars cost a bomb and we don’t need to inform you that. But when it comes to auctions involving rare vintage classics, the cost of one bomb might not be enough. However, there are people in this world with massive wealth and such elites leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of their desires. Car collectors have been known to pamper themselves with iconic automobiles even if it costs a fortune. Till now a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO auctioned in 2014, held the record of being the world’s most expensive race car with a valuation of whopping € 28.9 million. Very recently a legendary 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti made ripples in the vintage automobiles world when it fetched an astronomical € 32 million at a Paris auction. Sadly, the buyer even after shelling out the said fortune would not be able to flaunt the car on roads as this car is purely built for the track; so much for the passion of vintage machines.

Obviously, a car doesn’t have to be only decades old to claim such a price tag. Factors like number of units produced or some weird story associated definitely turn on aficionados, and this beauty has them both.

The 335 S Spider was produced by Italian manufacturer, Ferrari between 1957 and 1958. Only four units were rolled out from the manufacturing floor which makes this racer extremely rare; the one auctioned bears chassis # 0674. The car had been in the hands of a private French collector, also a racing driver, late Pierre Bardinon for more than 40 years and been offered for auction when the collector died in 2012. Fitted with Scaglietti bodywork, the 335 S Spider still possesses the potency to make hearts skip beats. Originally this model had a 3.6 liter, V12 motor breathing under the hood producing 360 horsepower.
