Bangalore: Most people think that books about technology tend to be overly futuristic, and have nothing much else to offer, but those who look into the chronicled lives and ideas of techies understand that history no longer repeats itself.

In fact, one of the ways these books help any dreamer is the way they show how one can climb on the shoulders of giants of the past and build the future.

The books in this list (which doesn’t contain textbooks) are especially enjoyable, according to VentureBeat, because they either tell the reader about great ideas that influenced entire generations of tech luminaries, or record the lives of history makers.

Here are 10 of the all-time must-reads that should be on any techie’s list:

1. Name of book: Steve Jobs
Author: Walter Isaacson
Year:
2011
What it’s about: Steve Jobs’ life, in the tech icon’s own words, as well as in the perspective of about 100 key players in his life including ex-girlfriends, former employees, wife and children, board members, and other big kahunas in technology such as Bill Gates
What’s great about it: Isaacson had about 40 interviews with the man, but managed to write this book in such a well-written manner that in the end, not only do you understand how complex Jobs was, but you also feel like you actually know him--you get to see how the tyrant in him one moment could turn into an emotional wreck the next. The book covers his journey from his pot-smoking, Nirvana-seeking-barefoot days to his growth to a tech luminary in Silicon Valley.
