Golf Legend Arnold Palmer Plays his Last Put


 

BENGALURU: Arnold Palmer, the golf legend whose charisma and infectious personality made him loved and adored by hordes of fans all across the globe, died on Sunday at the age of 87.

Arnold Palmer was also known as the ‘King’ of the golfing world. He was considered to be the first superstar of golf and he changed the way golf was played. With his good looks and charisma he had his own set of followers “Arnie’s Army” who were present everywhere to see him play. He was named by the GQ Magazine as one of the “50 most stylish men in the past 50 years.”

He passed away Sunday evening at a Pittsburgh hospital, according to a statement from his company. Palmer won several tournaments, which include—the Masters (in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964), the US Open (in 1960) and the British Open (in 1961 and 1962).

"We are deeply hurt by the death of Arnold Palmer, golf's greatest ambassador, aged 87," the USGA said in a statement.

His playing style captivated millions across the globe, and he became one of golf's hottest properties along with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, hogging all the limelight and helping propel the game into the mainstream consciousness. Palmer is survived by his second wife, Kit, his two daughters and six grandchildren.
