iPhone 8: What We Know So Far

It is ten years since Apple entered the mobile phone market and changed the smartphone landscape completely. This year, Apple is reportedly planning to shake the mobile phone market to the core by the release of its latest piece of artistry, the iPhone 8. Well, the phone may well take on another name, such as iPhone X, iPhone pro, or something entirely different. Information about Apple’s latest device remain scanty, and a subject of speculation. However, here is what we know about Apple’s next mobile device so far.

Release date

So, when is the next iPhone coming out? No one can answer the million-dollar question conclusively, but we have done some digging about, and we have reason to believe we have a clear insight on when the latest mobile device from Apple is likely to hit the market. It is not lost on many that Apple has a major event coming up on September 12 and that the giant phone company may use the occasion to release their new smartphone edition. You may also find it interesting that Apple has been churning out its flagship devices in September, and not any other month.

What’s in a name?

A little scrutiny will reveal that Apple has been consistent in calling its auspicious line of phones. The mobile phone manufacturer has been adding a single number to its brand name to create a name for their high-end devices – the iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. Rooting our view in this trend, we expect the latest device to bear the name iPhone 8. Nevertheless, Apple may want to mark its ten years in the market by coining a new name, such as iPhone 10, iPhone X or iPhone Pro.

The Design: What’s New?

We are expecting a bold change in the latest iPhone’s screen-to-body ratio, as is the case for Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6. We assume that Apple has taken the cue and will most likely have the screen cover the entire front part of the device. If this is the case, Apple would have to do away with the home button and the fingerprint scanner to make the bezels as thin as possible. Given the removal of the Touch ID, the company must have had to come up with alternative security features, and we expect 3D facial recognition sensors at the top of the display. The general understanding that the new phone will feature a glass back and metal sides, it is likely to feature wireless charging technology.

The twist in the specs

Reports from The Korea Herald, Bloomberg, the president of Sharp, Tai Jenk-Wu, and The Wall Street Journal suggest that Apple will follow in the footsteps of its biggest rival, Samsung, and fit an OLED screen to their upcoming device. The new phone is likely to choose from three display sizes: 4.7 inches, 5.5 inches and 5.8 inches. As for photography, we expect Apple to carry over the dual-lens camera with the optical image stabilisation capabilities.

Price

Well, the prices of the iPhones have been going up with every release, with the last device retailing at £599. It would be far-fetched to expect the latest mobile device to cost anything less than its previous release. Considering that its rival, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ go for £689 and £779 respectively, the iPhone 8 is likely to cost anything between £800 and £1,000. Whatever happens, brace for a hefty price tag on the upcoming Apple device.

It may not be clear when Apple will launch its latest device, but you can expect this September anytime. You can look forward to the amazing OLED display covering the entire face of the phone, and an enhanced battery life.
