BANGALORE: Yakub Abdul Razzak Memon, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, was finally executed in Nagpur Central Jail. The lone convict of the serial blast is said to have come back to India in 1994 to surrender in a hope to prove the allegations wrong. However, even his last petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court and Justice Dipak Misra upheld the death sentence.

The execution was yet another incidence of disheartening death penalty followed by Indian Penal Code. The death sentence of this convict became debatable issue in the nation. Many were of the view that although Yakub Memon wasn’t completely innocent, he didn’t deserve a death penalty.
