World's Worst Air Crashes in Past 5 Years


June 30, 2009, Comoros:

A Yemeni Airbus A310 jet carrying 153 people crashed in June, 2009 while coming in to land in the Comoros islands. The only survivor was a 12-year-old girl.

 

 

June 1, 2009, Brazil:

An Air France Airbus A330 was on its way from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009. The crash was the deadliest in the history of Air France, and has also been described as the worst accident in French aviation history. It killed all 228 people on board.

August 20, 2008, Spain:

 A Spanair MD-82 aircraft burst into flames while taking off from Madrid-Barajas Airport, killing 154 people. Only 18 people had survived. The accident was the world's deadliest aviation accident in 2008 and Spain's deadliest in 25 years.
