There are authors who did not just inspire and entertain readers but in turn earned recognition and made millions for their books. Here is the list of the world’s highest earning authors, as listed by Forbes.

James Patterson:
James Patterson is the world’s highest earning author with earnings of $94 million. He is well known as an author of thriller novels, particularly for his series about fictional psychologist Alex Cross, the Alex Cross series. Patterson also wrote the Michael Bennett, Daniel X, Women's Murder Club, Witch and Wizard series and Maximum Ride, along with many stand-alone thrillers, nonfiction and romance novels. His books have sold more than 270 million copies worldwide and in the last few years he has sold more copies than Dan Brown, John Grisham and J.K. Rowling together.

Stephen King:
At $39 million Stephen King takes the second spot on the list. King is an American author of contemporary horror, suspense, science fiction and fantasy. His books have sold more than 350 million copies and have been adapted into a number of comic books, feature films and television movies. He has received Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards, British Fantasy Society Awards and his short story "The Man in the Black Suit" received the O. Henry Award. The National Book Foundation awarded him the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2003. He has also received many accolades for his contribution to literature for his whole career, such as the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement (2004), the Canadian Booksellers Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2007) and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America (2007).
