8 Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
President of Liberia

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the 24th and first female President of Liberia. From 1979 to 1980 Sirleaf served as Minister of Finance under President William Tolbert, after which she held many senior positions in different financial institutions. In the 1997 presidential election she lost to Charles Taylor. She did win the 2005 presidential election and was re-elected in the 2011 elections as the state head. Her political belief is stated in her quote, “Be not afraid to denounce injustice, though you may be outnumbered. Be not afraid to seek peace, even if your voice may be small. Be not afraid to demand peace.”

Prime Minister of Australia

Julia Gillard is the first female Prime Minister of Australia to hold the office. Appointed in June 2010 Julia is known as a promising debater especially with her performances during parliamentary questioning. She also has ambitious reform to spend extra on the states in the next four years.
