Women Power: India Inc's Rising Women Leaders, 2015


BANGALORE: Women working in India are subject to cultural bias, unsafe environment, along with it they need to balance their work and home. Nevertheless, Indian women have proved their caliber and potentiality. Women today have confirmed that they are no less when compared to men on the parameters of professional hard work, leadership qualities, or intelligence.

Gone are the days when women limited their jobs only to banks and schools. Today there is no dearth of women working in different sectors of the economy. Even FMCG sector has witness growth in the number of women employees, reports The Economic Times.  

The Corporate Dossier - Spencer Stuart revealed their list of India Inc's Rising Women Leader where the stats show that the highest number of women is from FMCG. A majority of these are MNCs encouraging diversity.

Vodafone, P&G, Pepsico, Unilever, Castrol and Mondelez are amongst some of the subsidiaries in India that are advancing with initiative to empower and develop women leaders in every sector. The list will set an inspiration for other enterprises to trail on the same. Following this, Infosys disclosed of achieving a 25 percent mark for women leaders working for it.

Anjali Bansal, MD, Spencer Stuart India, jury member, said, "If companies like Infosys can take the lead on this matter and truly make it happen, it would add significantly to the overall push required."

The list also revealed that the average age of working India women is 38.5 years and also have an average experience of 15.5 years. In addition to this, the listing affirmed that 56 percent of the women work in MNCs, 36 percent in FMCG sector while 28 percent are entrepreneurs.

Deepak Satwalekar, former CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance, a jury member too, said, "Other sectors need to make an effort. Men have begun to appreciate that women can do anything they can do."

The list gives prominence to women entrepreneur and inheritors who are likely to witness growth in near future. Internet startups are no exception and are drawing increasing number of women. These stats definitely add to the picture of women development in India.
