U.S. Welcome Celebration for Indian PM To Costs $1.2 Mn

BANGALORE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for the visit to U.S. in September for the UN General Assembly in New York. For this upcoming trip, Modi has made it clear that the reception to be given by the Indian-American community must be organized as a national event and under the patronage of a 'Reception Committee for the Prime Minister of India.' The said event is likely to cost about $1.2 Million, reports Rediff.

A Chicago based physician Dr Bharat Barai who is Modi's longtime friend and confidante is in-charge for organizing the reception. Earlier, the Overseas Friends of the BJP has organized reception for the then Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he visited New York.

In addition, a Boston-based Vishwa Hindu Parishad front organization called the Global Indians for Bharat Vikas, and even the Federation of Indian Organizations in New York, which organizes the annual India Independence Day Parade in New York, had been initiating to host the reception that will be held in New York, most likely at the Madison Square Garden.

Dr Barai during his media interview revealed that PM Modi and his office had given stringent instructions "to make sure that this is not a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) event or that kind of event, but a broad-based programme incorporating a cross-section of the community from all across the U.S.”
