U.S. Fest to Open With Film on India

New York: A documentary about life and struggles of women in India and a gay man living in Israel will open the film competitions at the Tribeca Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in the United States. The 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, which will run through April 18 to 29, was co-founded by Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro. The film, The World Before Her, is by Canada-based Indian-origin filmmaker Nisha Pahuja and "weaves the complexity of possibilities for women in India in contrasting conservative and progressive veins". The documentary revolves around bringing together the opposing stories of the Miss India beauty pageant and a fundamentalist Hindu camp for girls.
