U.S. FAA Report On India's Aviation Safety Likely By 10 April

NEW DELHI: A team of officials from the U.S. aviation watchdog Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is in the capital for a final assessment of India's aviation safety is expected to submit its report by 10 April.

The report could pave way for a possible upgrade of the country's aviation safety ranking.

The FAA officials who arrived in New Delhi for a final review of the steps taken by the aviation regulator to address the deficiencies in the country's aviation safety, are expected to complete the exercise, DGCA sources said.

On 31 January, last year, the FAA had lowered India's safety ranking to Category-II from Category-I which the country had been holding since 1997.

The team is likely to submit its report by 10 April, they said adding," the decision on the ranking upgrade should come by the month."

Minister of state for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma had early this month said that DGCA was taking action on the findings brought up by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on India's aviation safety.

The action on the findings would be presented to FAA during the final consultation meeting to be held in March/April, the minister had said.
