Travelkhana, A Meal Booking For Bus Travellers As Well

BENALURU: Finding tasty and hygienic food in a long-distance journey by bus is almost impossible, sometimes, passengers may have to travel starving till the bus stops by the particular restaurant or a dhaba. Apprehending this shortcoming of long-distance bus journeys, New Delhi based online food ordering service for bus passangersTravelKhana, is setting up to institute a meal booking service for bus travelers too, as reported ET.

CEO of TravelKhana, Pushpinder Singh said "We are in talks with various bus operators to provide meals for passengers who would either be able to call us or pre book a meal. Customers would be able to book through our platform, call center or bus ticketing portals to order meals; we will start the service on buses plying between major metros, however, no such formal arrangement is in place as yet”

Conversely, according to CEO of Ibibo India Ashish Kashyap, travel service RedBus redBus had experimented with the idea few years ago. “We had done some experiments with TravelKhana two years ago, but currently no partnership or integration is on with them,” Kashyap said.

By selling more than 4 crore tickets over 67,000 routes, redBus is the leading bus ticket booking firm, which is acquired by Ibibo India for 800  crores.

TravelKhana is expecting to launch the new service within a month or so and according to Singh the company is also in talks with the IRCTC officials regarding the pre-booked food delivery services to rail passengers.

Though Indian Railways runs around 14, 000 passenger trains, only about 250 of them have on board food service system.
