BANGALORE: Forbes has recently come out with the list of the most powerful women in the world. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the list and features the 100 most influential women who represent 8 categories: technology, politics, business, finance, media, entertainment, philanthropy and NGOs, as well as billionaires. To determine the rank within each category, as well as overall rank on the list of 100, Forbes applied four metrics: money, media, impact and spheres of influence. Let us have a look at the top 10 world’s most powerful women in the overall category as compiled by Forbes.

1. Angela Merkel: The Chancellor of Germany and leader of the Christian Democratic Union party, Angela Merkel have been tagged as ‘the de facto leader of the European Union.’

The Forbes magazine has recently ranked her as the world's most powerful women and her name has been included for nine of the past 10 years. She has held her post as chancellor since 2005 and is the first women to hold the post. Merkel plays the key role in managing the financial crises, at both European and international levels. She is known to be the backbone of the 27-member European Union and its she who carries the fate of the euro on her shoulders.  Though Merkel was a physical chemist by professional background, she successfully entered politics in the wake of the revolutions of 1989.
