Teens Now To Learn Social Network Ethics

Bangalore: There have been increasing cases of complaints from teenagers on fake accounts and harassment on social networking sites, due to which the cyber cell of Delhi Police has kicked off an awareness programme for the youth aged 14-18 years.

An officer of deputy commissioner rank would visit schools under this programme, and brief the children about preventive measures to be taken while using social networking websites, as reported by Times of India. It is noted that the police will also appoint a 'tech savvy' teacher as their nodal officer who can co-ordinate and counsel the students.

The police started off by visiting a school in Mayur Vihar and spoke to the students and teachers. They spoke about modules on cyber laws, potential harms and penal actions apart from preventive measures that can be taken. As per the police, in the coming months they will try to cover every school in the capital.

SD Mishra, additional deputy commissioner of police, Economic Offences Wing, said the initiative will mainly focus on creating awareness among children in order to make them alert of the risks of unrestrained exchange of information on the internet and the precautions one needs to take. He said "Asking children to refrain from entering adult and hate sites, informing them of the cyber laws of the country and initiating publicity campaigns are some of the highlights of this programme," as reported by TOI.
