Safety Tests To Become Mandatory For All Vehicles


BANGALORE: Heavy industries Secretary, Rajan Katoch had stated that when it comes to Vehicle manufacturers mainly pertaining to cars, they cannot avoid complying with the top notch international standards for safety regulations from 2017, hinting that the industries should step up to this, reports TOI.

 He also added that in matters of protection and safety for driver and passenger, it will not be easy for the automobile industry to offer up something that is better than what has already come. In a conference held by the International Road Federation (IRF), Katoch on the topic of road safety had cited that by 2017 India will have seven centers to roll out all kinds of safety tests which includes side and frontal crash test.

According to sources, it is believed that on clearing the crash test, every new vehicle manufactured must be fitted with air bags as a safety measure in the future models. Furthermore, road transport ministry is believed to bring into play compulsory regulations for the use of anti-lock braking system in vehicles

Katoch added that the attention is now shifted on the safety vehicles and even with the functioning of test centers, automobile manufacturers cant disagree that there will be no domestic facility to perform mandatory tests.

"These dates have been fixed after wider consultation with the manufacturer. Some of them have already started taking necessary steps. There will be no tweaking with this timeline," a ministry official said.

Vice-president (soft products) of Volvo Buses, Martin Jeressand had stated that they have a vision to make certain that no deaths will be caused by their vehicles by 2020.
