Sachin's 100 Centuries and India's Corruption Among Top Stories Of 2012


Bangalore:  The wide coverage the top stories get by media is the not just because they deserve it but because it has touched the hearts of many in different ways, and because it seems inspiring or poignant when recalled. Two Indian stories and one story with Indian connection have caught the world’s focus among the top stories in 2012. A list put together by TIME magazine recorded the ‘highs and lows, the good and the bad" of 2012.

India’s endeavor against corruption, the shooting at Wisconsin Gurudwara and cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries where the stories covered on the list. With the year closing in, TIME has condensed the list that titles ‘Top 10 Everything of 2012’ into 55 different categories. In the top 10 international news section for 2012 India’s corruption woes took the top tenth spot. TIME said, “This year has been a banner year for governance in the world’s largest democracy,” as reported by PTI. The heat created by corruption scandals has caused a discord in the country among the people and government.

India’s corruption woes
Indian middle class populace led by anti corruption activist Anna Hazare in 2011 initiated the movement which later transformed to a political mission by Arvind Kejriwal in 2012. The Aam Admi Party formed by Arvind Kejriwal launched in November 2012 might struggle at the election but stands as a blemish on the government led by Manmohan Singh in the country.
