'Rise Of NGOs', A Boon To Indian Society

BANGALORE: India, with a sky rocketing numbers of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating within a country, no longer have to worry about weak civil society movement. As per the Central Bureau of Investigation rough estimation, around 20 lakh NGOs are already operating in states and union territories, reports Dhananjay Mahapatra of TNN.

Ironically, the country has one NGO per every 600 people but it has just one policeman for every 943 people, says the latest figures from the Union home ministry.

The CBI reported to the apex court that though there is mushrooming growth of NGOs, the responsibility extended by most of the NGOs is still questionable. This is because many of them fail to submit accurate reports and details regarding the grant and spending to the income tax authorities.
