Republic Day 2013: 22 Children to Get Bravery Awards


3. Gajendra Ram from Chhatisgarh
To be Awarded With - Sanjay Chopra award

11-year-old Gajendra Ram from Chhattisgarh is being felicitated with 'Sanjay Chopra' award, for saving a child from drowning in a 22-feet deep well.

In 1978, Geeta and Sanjay Chopra, two siblings were kidnapped for ransom; but were killed later by their kidnapper. Since then Indian Council for Child Welfare instituted two bravery awards for children under the age of 16, the Sanjay Chopra Award and the Geeta Chopra Award.

4. Mukesh Nishad from Chhatisgarh
To be Awarded With - National Bravery Award

Six children were trapped in storehouse on fire on May 12, 2012, in Chhattisgarh. 16-year-old Mukesh Nishad pulled the kids one by one out the window and saved their lives.

5. Lalrinhlua from Mizoram
To be Awarded With - National Bravery Award

12-year-old Lalrinhlua, with a playful mind went to a neighbourhood pond to play with his friends. There he witnessed a boy drowning in the pond. This brave lad jumped into the water and saved the boy. He also arranged immediate first-aid to revive the boy.
