Rath Yatra, the Spiritual Journey Celebrated Across Country


BANGALORE: The great annual festival of God, the 137th ‘Rath Yatra’ of Lord Jagannath is celebrated across India with great pomp and traditional fervor. This festival marks the journey of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and younger sister Subhadra at their Aunt’s place, Gundicha Temple, 2 km away from Lord Jagannath temple.

This annual ritual is celebrated with great artistic color.  The three deities on the auspicious day are taken out to the streets of Puri for everyone to have a glimpse of the deities of the 12th century old and offer prayers. Over 10 lakh devotees gathered in the town of Puri to witness the marvelous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

On this grand occasion, several political leaders greeted the people of the country and faith. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people and tweeted, "My warm greetings to the people on the occasion of Rath Yatra that would be held across India today. We bow to Lord Jagannath on this auspicious day. Today, once again he sets out on his chariot, giving blessings to the people,"
