9. Madeleine Albright:

Madeleine Albright, born in Czech Republic, fled to the United States in 1948 when communists took over the government. Then, Albright’s family settled in Denver. Albright completed her education in Wellesley College and got involved in politics. As a child refugee, she was a part of a wartime film aimed at promoting sympathy for all war refugees in London. Albright became the first female secretary of state and the highest-ranking woman in the U.S. government in 1997.

10. Nadia Comaneci:

Nadia Comaneci, a member of the Romanian Olympic Team, won worldwide acclaim when she became the first gymnast to score a perfect 10 at the 1976 summer games. She went on to win five more medals during the course of her Olympic career. But, she was later, defected to the West in the fading days of the Communist regime. After her retirement, Comaneci has been active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Special Olympics and also took a turn on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.
