Opposition To Test Modi Sarkar in The Winter Session Of Parliament

BENGALURU: BJP has set its foot in the parliament after very many years. While the government has to meet the aspirations of the people, they also have a challenging task of facing the irate opposition. BJP is rather set for a difficult winter session, despite a statement from Shiv Sena that strained ties in Maharashtra would not prevent it from supporting the government at the center.

Shiv Sena’s statement is definitely an indirect hint of power sharing in Maharashtra, for which hopes are increasing daily. However, BJP is confident to meet the hopes of opposition. On the other hand, Chandrakant Patil has given a statement that Shiv Sena will be accommodated duly in the cabinet expansion. The timing here is highly significant as BJP needs its majority in a joint session of Parliament for which 392 MPs are required. This would not be possible in the case of a split between the two. 392 is the magic number that can smoothly pass legislation.

Times of India noted in a report that the government which lacks majority in the Rajya Sabha (RS) often utilizes the joint sitting route to "get around resistance from opponents to legislations such as insurance amendment bill, changes in land acquisition act and constitutional amendment that will be needed for the goods and services tax (GST) bill."

There is good enough opposition including SP, BSP, JDU, JDS, CPM and TMC who comprise 60 members of total 245 in RS. The all-party meeting held can be viewed as an indication to worry the government.
