No More Mobile Phones For K'taka Legislators Inside Assembly

BENGALURU: Mobile phones connect us to the rest of the world in just a click. However, there are times when one needs to live outside the mobile world, and that happens to be for the Karnataka legislators who have been shut doors for access of mobile phone inside the assembly house, reports TOI.

Being present at the legislative assembly and watching compromising clippings and pictures is a sole reason for this measure being taken and it’s also a  common type of offence that was being done by the MLAs.

In a recent such event, a Bharatiya Janata Party’s MLA, was caught surfing photographs on his cellphone downloaded from WhatsApp during a serious debate on sugarcane pricing in the recently held session. But when asked it was denied.

Following that, Congress showed a tremendous criticism regarding this incident and has asked BJP MLA to apologize. However, in his statement denied any false accusations stating that he was not having any bad intention.

Following such incidents, the Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, called out that, henceforth mobile phones will be placed outside the house during the legislative assembly. And MLAs were also asked to deposit their mobile phones in a specially made wooden locker in the lounge. Coupons containing numbers were issued to the members after depositing their mobiles. A marshal was also stationed near the locker to keep watch on the deposited mobiles.
