Mumbai Emerges as India's Costliest City for Expats: Survey


Bangalore: Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra which is considered as a city of dream and the commercial capital of the country, has now emerged as India’s most expensive city for expats to live in, as per the 2013 global survey released recently by Mercer, a Consulting firm. Mumbai ranked 118 out of the 214 cities listed across five continents in the survey, reports Richa Mishra for The Business Line.

This Indian city is one of the most populous cities not only in India but throughout the world and the richest city with the highest GDP that generates 5 percent of the country’s overall GDP.

Since the year 2000, the prices in the real estate business are increasing tremendously and this in a way proves quite hefty on the part of expatriate’s expenses.

The Angolan capital Luanda bagged the title of the most expensive city in 2013 followed by Moscow and Tokyo according to Mercer’s survey. This African nation although is a major oil producers and a relatively poor country, it is quite expensive for expatriates as imported goods are costly. Also, it is quite challenging and expensive to get accommodated in a secure environment that will meet the standards of expats in this country.
