Most Fatal Temple Stampedes in India


Bangalore: Many tragedies have hailed over India and one of them is the recent temple stampede in Madhya Pradesh that took away the lives of several people. Several mass gatherings have lead to extremely fatal casualties and deaths. Though these deadly stampedes are relatively common in India, people still visit temples in flocks without any safety measures around them.
Here is a list of some dreadful temple stampedes that have occurred in India, listed by Rediff.

Bhavnath temple, Gujarat (February 19, 2012)

A stampede that broke out in Gujarat’s Bhavnath temple on the occasion of the annual Mahashivratri fair killed six people and left nearly 40 others injured. About five lakh people had gathered to attend the Gayatri Mahakumbh in Shanti Kunj to commemorate the birthday of Pandit Shri Ram Sharma. Apparently, the stampede took place following panic when the brakes of a four wheeler failed at the fair.
