Monsoon Awards a Loss of 2,900 Crore to Himachal Pradesh


Bangalore: Himachal Pradesh witnessed the worst monsoon this year, killing 50 people and causing damages worth Rs 2892 crore. People were left stranded for their lives with properties destroyed.  Kinnaur district with 23 deaths, was the highest in the region, reports TNN.
 

The Electricity infrastructure and all power projects in Himachal Pradesh were affected by the rain. According to officials, the power plants alone have faced a damage of Rs 475 crore in the past three days.

Chief minister Virbhadra Singh stated that his state underwent a massive damage due to rainfall and landslides. According to him, 24,142 domestic animals, 5,287homes, cowsheds and shops were completely washed out.  

"We experienced early monsoon this year. From June 15 to 17, incessant and heavy rains lashed various parts of the state, coupled with cloudbursts at several places. The state experienced unprecedented heavy rainfall, which was 576 percent to 1,358 percent above normal during these three days,” states Virbhadra Singh to TNN.
