Modi is Fourth Most Followed World Leader On Twitter


BANGALORE: Today, social networking becomes an indispensable diplomatic and communication tool. India's tech-savvy Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with 4,981,777followers, has garnered the 4th place in the list of most followed world leaders on Twitter, overtaking the White House in terms of number of followers on the microblogging site, an annual global study of world leaders revealed.

Modi skyrocketed to the fourth place, leaving behind Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They both have more than 4 million followers each.

“I am a firm believer in the power of technology and social media to communicate with people across the world”, Narendra Modi wrote in his inaugural message on his new website. Within weeks of his election in May 2014, the @NarendraModi account has moved into the top five most followed Twitter accounts of world leaders with close to five million followers.

According to Twiplomacy, a study conducted by global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller, U.S. President Barack Obama is the most followed leader on Twitter followed by Pope Francis and Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, according to Twiplomacy which quoted a study conducted by global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller.

The study further revealed that Obama has 43.69 million followers, Pope Francis has 14.09 million and Yudhoyono has 5.06 million followers.
