MNP Ready: Now Use Just One Number Anywhere In India

BENGALURU: Giving a relief to the mobile users all over India, the government has taken a huge leap introducing nationwide Mobile Number Portability (MNP) on July 3, which was expected to roll on by May 3 earlier this year. However the scheme got postponed due to Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) which had sought for an extension to allow telecom operators to make technical changes to implement the service to customers, reports MoneyControl.

Union Minister for Telecommunications, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the facility will be ready by July. The recent announcement that the service is ready to roll out on July 3 puts an end to the waiting of MNP.

To implement MNP, DoT had amended the national numbering plan, indicating telecom operators to allow their subscribers dialing on to mobile numbers who are in same circle or other without any prefix and to allow this the changes are to be made in the hardware and software to process MNP. It’s all done and ready.

The never ending cycle of people who relocates places for different purposes are forced to buy a local SIM as the other state number charges differently in different states. This situation will be turned over letting the people use just one number throughout the nation with this MNP.

"With our complete readiness to launch national mobile number portability, we aim to empower customers enabling them to retain this identity as they move across anywhere in the country. To facilitate a seamless transition, we will also allow our customers to enjoy free incoming on roaming while their number portability request is being processed," Bharti Airtel Director (Market Operations) Ajai Puri said.
