List of Least Powerful Passport Across the Globe


BENGALURU: Do not consider yourself as a victim to the misfortune if your visa gets declined due to some or the other reasons. There can be many reasons behind it; out of which one factor for the refusal of visa might be the nationality of your country whose passport may not be powerful enough. Arton Capital’s Passport Index for 2016 nails down all the national passports that are availed across globe, of which more than fifteen passports are least powerful.

The least powerful among all the passport is of Afghanistan, where passport holder are allowed in free visa in only three countries and the rest 21 countries need visa on arrival. Following it is its neighboring country ‘Pakistan’ which has free visa for 6 countries and visa on arrival is required for 21 countries. Ranking 92 in the global Passport Index is Iraq where its citizens are free to go to 5 countries and the rest 24 countries it needs visa on arrival.

The next rank hits onto the Middle East countries of Somalia, Syria, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Sudan which ranks globally between 90 and 91 having visa-free score of 31 and 36 respectively.  Then ranking 89 on global scale is the passport of Bangladesh, Iran and Libya with visa-free score of 37, of which Bangladesh has the highest visa free arrival out of the two countries in the ranking.

Having same global rank, Plaestinian Territories are ahead of Eritrea in terms of free visa score. Sri Lanka and Congo has global rank 87 where Sri Lanka has 16 score in terms of visa free while Congo remains at the count of 11.  

Restrictions to travel in a country are depended upon the relation between the two nations. The least being Afghanistan and the most powerful passport being Germany with visa free over 121 countries and total visa free score of 158 countries which is the highest among all the national passport mentioned on the list.
