BENGALURU: Domestic market of animation and gaming in India had been rising sharply owing to the increased demand for outsourcing services. However, with more than 250 gaming companies today, the industry is beating the past obstacles of foreign gaming companies.
The domestic players are focusing on the Indian market which is growing by 30 percent every year. The business is being taken seriously in Bengaluru, more popularly known as the Silicon Valley of India reports Mohammed Waseem, TOI.
The massive following for gaming can be well gauged from the number of gaming cafés, lounges and companies in the Bengaluru. According to Poornima Seetharaman, lead game designer, Bengaluru, "The city is a preferred destination not only for Indian gaming companies, but also the international ones who regularly conduct gaming conferences and fests to interact with the gaming community. Currently, the trend is leaning towards social casino games, such as teen patti, rummy, poker, etc. There are also a lot of games that are developed keeping the Indian audience in mind, which have culturally-relatable elements in them."
The frequently organized gaming events and the lively gaming environment in the city lure gamers from across the nation to shift base and join the bandwagon here. Gaming bloggers are of the view that the gaming sphere in South India is far bigger and active than in North India. In addition to this, bloggers find it convenient to get in touch with the city based gaming companies and keep updated.
To bridge the gap between the developers, gamers and designers, a monthly meet-up was organized in the Bengaluru named the Bangalore Video Games Meet Up And Hangout.
The meet-ups serve as a platform for gamers across the nation to join in and share their take on the Indian gaming sector.
The passion for gaming in youngsters is more driven by the opportunity to gain a few bucks from the competitions. This hints that the gaming sector is going beyond just being an entertainment medium in the country.
