Neerja Bhanot: Youngest Recipient of Ashoka Chakra Award in India:

A 23 year old young lady Neerja Bhanot, who was flight attendant of Pan Am was shot dead while saving passengers from terrorists on board who had hijacked the Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986.Neeraja Bhanot She even helped the pilots flee while the plane was still on the runway, saved 41 Americans by hiding their passports when hijackers specifically asked to identify Americans and helped a number of passengers get off the plane before the hijackers opened fired. She had all the chances to leave the plane before others but she took it up as her responsibility to do the job. She still remains the youngest Indian (22) to be honored by the Ashok Chakra Award.
