India's Top Political Bigwigs Who Hogged Major Limelight


BANGALORE: The season of India’s biggest election is going in full swing and major politicos dominate the scenes in various forms of media especially in electronic media like TV. The study, conducted by CMS Media Lab after analyzing five top news channels, shows how top political leaders in the country have secured the highest coverage on TV during prime time. CMS Media Lab said it has arrived at the figures based on coverage time given to election topics during 8 to 10pm from March 1 to 15. So, let’s take a look at the top 5 leaders who emerge in the top spot of this list.

Arvind Kejriwal: Amid the uproar over the two established politicians, a new entrant like Arvind Kejriwal has emerged as a knight in a shining armor that turns up in the hope of rescuing India’s “common man” from the old-school politicians.

This new, highly educated and respected civil society-backed opponent and his party have made the 2014 elections much more interesting. Kejriwal, who defeated Congress’ three-time chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the Delhi legislative elections, last year, hopes to break the country’s two big parties—Congress-BJP cycle. He promises to clean up the inefficient bureaucracy and offers an anti-corruption platform to the common people of India. As such, this newbie in political arena has secured the highest coverage in TV news during prime time. He has received 429 minutes or 28.19 percent.
