India's Shame: Social Evils That Still Persist

BANGALORE: It is indeed shocking to accept the fact that though India is now living in the technologically advanced 21st century, there are still some social issues that remain deep rooted within the Indian society.

Read on to check out such social issues in the country as compiled by IndiaTV.

Low education for girls:

In India, 100 percent literacy rate is still a distant dream for many young women.

Keeping in mind the present pace of development, the country will take at least over 55 years to achieve female youth literacy.

According to the UNESCO Education for All Global Monitoring Report,  there is a serious gender imbalance in global education and as such over 100 million young women in low and lower middle income countries unable to read a single sentence, and will prevent half of the 31 million girls out of school from ever enrolling.

In India, states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar still have the lowest female literacy rate.

Malnutrition:

The famous saying, “Children are the pillars of success,” seem valueless in a country like India where 79 percent of its children are anemic.

According to the Child Rights and You report, several children in this country do not get adequate food and the child sex ratio is the lowest in the country with 914 girls for every 1000 boys.

For instance, in Maharashtra, almost half of the children under five years are exploited and nearly one-fifth are brutally stunted.
